Jalgaon to Ellora Caves: A Perfect Day Trip Plan

The Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are among the finest rock-cut monuments in the world. Carved between the 6th and 10th centuries, the 34 caves bring together Buddhist, Hindu and Jain traditions side by side. From Hotel Royal Palace in Jalgaon, Ellora is about 159 km by road, roughly 3 hours 20 minutes each way, which makes it an easy and rewarding day trip.

Planning your day

Leave Jalgaon by 7:00 AM after an early breakfast so you reach Ellora by mid-morning, before the afternoon heat and crowds. Allow at least four hours at the site. The highlight is the Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), a monumental temple carved from a single rock, but the Buddhist Vishwakarma Cave (Cave 10) and the Jain caves are equally remarkable.

• Ellora is closed on Tuesdays. Please check the Archaeological Survey of India website for current timings and tickets before you travel.
• Wear comfortable footwear, carry water and a hat, and keep some cash for parking and refreshments.
• You can combine Ellora with Daulatabad Fort and Bibi Ka Maqbara in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on the same route.
